Emperor Seven Seas Liveaboard Destroyed by Fire in Port Ghalib
On March 13, 2025, the popular liveaboard Emperor Seven Seas was completely destroyed by fire at Port Ghalib marina. Fortunately, all passengers and crew were safely evacuated.
Safe Evacuation and Official Statement
Emperor Divers, the company operating the liveaboard, released a statement soon after the fire started:
“In the early hours of Thursday, March 13, Emperor Seven Seas was moored in Port Ghalib when a fire broke out. Unfortunately, it could not be controlled.
Emperor Divers are very grateful to our professional and dedicated crew, who, along with the guests onboard, followed emergency procedures to ensure everyone was safely evacuated.
The situation is under control, and all clients and crew are now ashore in Port Ghalib, where our team is providing assistance.”
A Difficult Time for Egyptian Diving Tourism
The loss of Seven Seas is another setback for scuba diving tourism in Egypt. This incident comes just months after the tragic sinking of the Sea Story liveaboard in November 2024, which resulted in 11 deaths.
Emperor Divers is a well-known and respected dive company with a strong safety record. However, Seven Seas is now the ninth liveaboard lost in Egypt since February 2023. This raises concerns about safety standards in one of the world’s most popular scuba diving destinations.
Authorities and dive operators may need to take further steps to ensure the safety of liveaboards in the Red Sea and prevent future accidents.
